Charlene Wood Courtney (Owner/ Manager):

Charlene grew up on Lake George and currently splits her time between the lake and Saratoga Springs. Her father, Charles R. Wood, founded and operated the theme parks The Great Escape (originally Storytown) and Gaslight Village, in Lake George. Her father was also an avid collector of art, and Charlene often accompanied her dad to auctions and galleries all over the world, as a child and teenager. Because of her early personal exposure to collecting, Charlene has cultivated a unique appreciation of art and antiques. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. In addition to running Silverwood, she is also an Associate Broker with Select Sotheby's International Realty, focusing on high end, unique properties in Saratoga Springs and Lake George.

Chelsea Hoopes Silver (Owner/ Director):

Chelsea grew up in the Lake George/ Saratoga Springs area, where she also now resides. Her family roots can be traced back in the Bolton Landing, Lake George, and Glens Falls, New York area for over 150 years. Chelsea graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in English Literature. Also inspired by her grandfather, Charles R. Wood, she also pursued and received her Master of Arts degree in American Fine and Decorative Arts from the Sotheby's Institute of Art, New York in 2009. She has worked at Godel and Co. and Gerald Peters Gallery, two fine art galleries specializing in American art of the 19th and early 20th centuries, in New York City. She is also currently an Associate Salesperson with Select Sotheby's International Realty.

In 2008, Charlene and Chelsea ran the Lakeshore Gallery in Bolton Landing and have since been working in art consulting with their other entity, C Squared. They are also on several charitable boards, including the Charles R. Wood Foundation and the Double H Hole in the Woods Camp, and they are often involved in fundraising for other local charities as well.

History of the Building

Silverwood's Bolton Landing gallery is located in a historic stone schoolhouse that was built in 1887. The school operated from the time it was built until 1920. Until recently, it has also been operated as a gift shop (the School Bell) by Patricia Hoopes.

Yes, we are located in the old Boyce & Drake, where until recently there were toilets in the window... a beautiful space with great original details left mostly in tact. Believe it or not, the boys at B & D did a pretty good job keeping it original, toilets and all, and after just a little bit of paint and sanding, we are happy to have such a beautiful space (and such great landlords)!
